Why should I buy a handmade rug instead of machine made rug?
Handmade rugs are part of the rich artistic history of human beings. The oldest known handmade rug was found frozen off coast Siberia and dated to 500 BC. As with all handcrafted items, the artisan’s unique interpretation is transferred into the rug adding to its intrinsic value unlike machine made rugs. Also, handmade rugs generally hold their value better than machine made rugs and often increase in value as they become semi-antique (50 years old) or antique (100 years old).
Does the rug size include fringe?
No. The size only includes the width and length of the rug. Because our rugs are handmade, the sizes stated are close estimates and may vary by a few inches.
Do all rugs come with fringe?
No. Some styles will come with binded ends. Most photos will clearly indicate which rugs have fringe and which do not. Please call if you are uncertain or would like to know which designs are available without fringe.
How do I know what size to order?
The best way to determine the size of rug needed is to “tape off the floor area in question” or fold a bed sheet or newspaper to what looks appropriate. There is no set rule as to how much floor is exposed or if furniture should be off or on a rug. Generally one large rug in a room is less formal then several smaller rugs in the same room. In dining rooms it is generally expected that the chairs pulled back from the table should remain on the rug.
When a rug design is made in different sizes, shapes or colors it is called a program rug.
What is a one of a kind rug?
One of a kind rugs are unique individual rugs available only as an individual rug in the size, shape, and color shown.
Can I hang a rug on the wall?
Yes. Many designers use area size rugs as wall hangings to add color, design and texture. QualityRug sells wall hanging sets or you may choose to have your rug professionally mounted.
How do I measure for a staircase runner?
The general estimate is 1 foot per step. For an exact measurement it is best to run a flexible tape measure or string along each step, lip, and trend of the entire staircase starting at the bottom of the first riser and ending just under the lip of the top step.
Do I need stair rods to install a staircase runner?
No. Most staircase runner installations are secured with small nails or staples. The brass rods often seen in design magazines are for decorative value. QualityRugs sells a fine selection of top quality stair rods in various designs and metals.
Quality Rugs recommends using padding under your rugs to prevent sliding, to ensure even wear and extend the life of the rug. We sell padding for both hardwood floors and other surfaces such as tile and wall to wall carpeting.
Regular vacuuming and periodic professional cleaning once every three to five years will help keep your rugs in good condition. It is also recommended to rotate your rugs once a year to ensure even light exposure and foot traffic patterns.
